PSYCHOPOETICA 35
Good writing - cheap and cheerful presentation - serious without being pretentious or unintelligle - editors say they like black humour and bad taste but don't be put off, it's better than that.
10th MUSE
This magazine promised much but has turned into a bit of a 'squib'. The familiar not-too-ambitious small press poetry 'norm' is presented in dog-turd describing mode. This is relieved by Steve Sneyd - in 'psychopathic' reverie - and Mark Goodwin, whose Hill Myth is both ghastly and impressive. In this narrative poem a huge pair of "breasts made of mud" pop out of Mark's suburban lawn, "with cobble-nipples from which trickled / luminous tributaries of lava..." In this work, the poet skilfully assumes the persona of an 11 year old boy. He crayons titties onto consciousness. Then 'she' 'pulls' an earthen 'partner'. 'They copulated in my gardcn." After the eco-friendly couple do it, the female element gives birth to a mountain ('naturally').
